- Description: Elon Musk named Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney and Suno for Grok Bot's planned model routing. Customers can see the serving model, but Enterprise restrictions carry a caveat. The announcement leaves rollout details, provider terms and independent evidence of better task results incomplete.

Elon Musk [announced on October 7](https://runtimewire.com/article/spacex-grok-bot-rival-model-routing?ref=implicator.ai) plans for SpaceXAI's Grok Bot to use external AI providers to handle work for customers. The product would select a provider by task, with Claude Opus 5.5 and outside services Midjourney and Suno among the named options. Customers whose contracts limit which subprocessors, outside companies that process data on the service's behalf, can handle their data are directed by existing security guidance to their account team before deployment.

SpaceX and Anthropic already have a separate commercial relationship. On May 6, Anthropic [announced an agreement](https://www.anthropic.com/news/higher-limits-spacex?ref=implicator.ai) to use all the compute capacity at SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center. That agreement concerns computing infrastructure and does not establish commercial terms for today's model-routing announcement.

The announcement does not say Grok's own models have been abandoned.

What Changed

- Musk named Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney and Suno for Grok Bot's planned task-based model routing.
- Usage analytics identify the serving model; Grok Bot has no customer-facing model picker.
- Enterprise model allowlists are honored by default, but enforcement is not guaranteed.
- The announcement supplies no independent test showing better task results or complete rollout details.

## Workspace

Grok Bot launched in beta on August 11, 2026.

Its agents keep memory and work across connected apps, with tasks continuing after users close their laptops. A user's Bots share one persistent cloud computer, including files, browser sessions and app logins. Each Bot retains its own conversations and learned context. Bots use a browser, filesystem and terminal, with connectors where available and computer use elsewhere.

Musk named services spanning language, images and music, but did not specify a fixed assignment for any of them. Claude Opus 5.5 was released on September 22.

## Provider controls

[Security documentation updated September 28](https://docs.x.ai/grok-bot/security?ref=implicator.ai) predates the October 7 announcement, which does not specify how its provider terms apply to the newly named services. Cursor manages model selection, with no customer-facing model picker, as [existing settings documentation](https://docs.x.ai/grok-bot/settings-and-notifications?ref=implicator.ai) also states. Usage analytics identify the model serving each request, including a replacement used when the first choice fails. Billing follows the serving model, and the provider mix can change over time.

Enterprise customers have a team model allowlist, honored by default. An allowlist governs permitted model options; a picker would let customers choose a model for a request. Enforcement is not guaranteed: onboarding presents an acknowledgement that Grok Bot may not follow the list.

The September 28 documentation says that, when a team's Privacy Mode is enabled, customer data is not used for training. Provider retention under Cursor's agreements is described there: prompts and outputs are not kept, except that data flagged by abuse or safety checks may be stored for investigation.

Musk's announcement does not detail a completed rollout or provide routing tests, rollout reach or third-party API costs. Musk's announcement and the documentation provide no independent measurement of improved results.

## Review and charges

With enforcement enabled, Auto Review can allow an action, require approval or deny it. Members have personal controls; team administrators can enforce it only on Enterprise. A separate review model checks risky actions before they run, including commands, plugin calls and computer use. Its checks do not cover every side effect, including memory writes and most settings changes. The [Grok Bot terms](https://x.ai/legal/grok-bot-terms?ref=implicator.ai) caution that automated review may miss unintended actions and cannot undo work already completed. Customers must review consequential actions, including financial transactions and data deletion.

[Individual paid plans and self-serve Teams include weekly usage](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/plans?ref=implicator.ai). After that allowance runs out, work can continue if on-demand usage is enabled, with extra charges billed through Cursor. A task already running can finish past the monthly spending limit; further on-demand work then stops until the limit rises or the billing cycle resets.

How will model restrictions and provider terms apply to the newly named services?

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Claude handle every Grok Bot task?

Musk named Claude Opus 5.5 alongside Midjourney, Suno and other services. He did not specify a fixed task assignment or say Grok's own models would be abandoned.

Can users choose the model?

The existing documentation says Cursor manages model selection and there is no customer-facing model picker. Usage analytics identify the model serving each request, including failovers.

Can companies restrict model providers?

Enterprise customers have a team model allowlist that is honored by default, but enforcement is not guaranteed. The documentation directs customers with contractual provider restrictions to their account team.

Has the routing change been shown to improve results?

No independent improvement measurement was established in the reporting. Musk's announcement does not supply routing tests, full rollout details or third-party API costs.

How is extra Grok Bot usage billed?

Paid access includes weekly usage. Once that runs out, enabled on-demand usage is billed through Cursor. An already-running task can finish past the monthly limit before further on-demand work stops.
