Before adopting a closed-source desktop app, use Reverse Engineer Anything (REA), a free, open-source, MIT-licensed tool maintained by a developer who goes by morluto. It connects the coding agent you already pay for to software-analysis tools, so the agent can inspect apps without source code and show evidence behind each finding.
On October 8, 2026, Curtis Pyke examined a six-file Electron example with REA 6.0.0: 21 findings and one inter-process communication (IPC) channel in about 1.3 seconds. A formatter rebuilt from those findings matched the original on all 14 declared test cases.
This walkthrough follows REA’s documentation and Pyke’s published test; Implicator did not run these steps. Pyke, who published the test at Kingy AI, used macOS 26.3 on arm64, Node.js 24.16.0 and npm 11.13.0. The small example’s results do not establish how another app behaves.
You will run static analysis of an Electron app, trace one export feature to file-and-line evidence, and compare a rebuilt version against the original. You need a supported coding agent such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, terminal experience, Node.js and npm, plus curl and Python 3. Those checks give you evidence to review before your team depends on a feature.
