Good morning.
Someone still has to check the work.
PHP patched two flaws on Oct. 21, 2026. The out-of-memory problem behind Calif's attack had been identified in 2024, before an AI-assisted audit gave developers a working exploit to deal with.
Anthropic opened a Claude Duet preview waitlist on Oct. 21, 2026, for U.S. Pro and Max subscribers. Its cloud computer keeps working after the laptop lid comes down.
By August, Anthropic's interactive AI agent hours outnumbered estimated employee hours six to one. Its research report compares agent activity with human hours estimated from headcount and a 40-hour working week.
Stay curious,

THE BIG STORY |
PHP released fixes Oct. 21 for two runtime flaws rated 9.2 under CVSS v4.0 that can allow unauthenticated remote code execution.
The out-of-memory problem behind Calif's attack was known in 2024, but repair work stalled. An OpenAI-funded audit began July 30, 2026; Calif researcher Ryan Austin used an OpenAI model to find an attack route within days. Calif built a working WordPress attack.
An Oct. 20 identifier leak pulled the release forward from Oct. 22 to Oct. 21. Fixed versions are 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35. European government and hospital websites went offline as a precaution.
Why This Matters:
- Administrators running PHP websites must update the runtime; PHP says interim settings reduce exposure and provide no complete mitigation.
- Organizations still running PHP 8.2 face another deadline when that version reaches end of life on Dec. 31, 2026.

ALSO TODAY |
Anthropic opened a waitlist for Claude Duet’s research preview on Oct. 21, 2026, for U.S. Pro and Max subscribers.
Duet works on its own cloud computer, requiring approval before sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting anything. Background checks share the user’s regular Claude usage limits. With no published estimate of allowance consumed per task, users cannot tell from the launch materials how much unattended work their plan covers.

The Outside Read |
Anthropic’s research report examines how employment is changing inside the company using its internal records.
“By August interactive AI agent hours outnumbered employees' six to one.” Human hours are estimated as headcount times 40 hours a week, so the ratio rests on an estimate, not logged hours.

Find the gaps in a vendor announcement.
A launch post can leave purchase terms unstated. Use your buying context to identify which omissions matter.
Your raw input:
The prompt:
Why this works:
The classifications expose promises that cannot support a purchase today. Questions tied to passages give the account manager something specific to answer.
What to use:
Use a current reasoning model in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.

Repo Spotlight |
morluto/rea is an MIT-licensed TypeScript tool connecting AI agents to reverse engineering tools, with about 350,000 GitHub stars as of Oct. 20, 2026.
What it does: REA uses MCP, a protocol for connecting AI assistants to external tools, to inspect software without its original source code, calling an existing Hopper, Ghidra or IDA installation for deeper native analysis. Results carry evidence records with locations and limitations, plus confidence labels that are not measured accuracy scores.
Who needs it: Developers and security engineers examining unfamiliar software who want to trace an agent’s explanation to evidence, with the caveat that tool results can reach the agent’s model provider under its data policy.

OpenAI’s Locked Chats puts a PIN or supported biometric check between someone borrowing your device and selected conversations.
Our take: OpenAI has supplied a privacy feature for the moment you hand someone your phone. Its reach ends conveniently close to your hand. Locking a chat leaves retention unchanged. The model-improvement setting stays put. Anything ChatGPT remembered before the lock remains remembered. The separate Locked Chats section does give the feature an address, which is useful when the name is doing this much work.
Reset the PIN and every locked chat, file and other protected item is permanently deleted. That is an impressive penalty for a reset. The feature makes deletion more decisive than privacy. OpenAI has put a lock on the drawer and attached the shredder to the spare key.
