On Tuesday, OpenAI killed Sora, its AI video platform, blindsiding Disney thirty minutes after a working session. The $1 billion deal collapsed without a dollar changing hands. Compute costs ran an estimated $15 million per day for a product that earned $2.1 million in its lifetime. Downloads peaked at 3.3 million in November, fell to 1.1 million by February. The math was never mysterious. The real question is what this decision reveals about the company OpenAI is trying to become.
